Nestled among the lush foothills of Missouri’s ageless Ozarks, Bonne Terre lies at the gateway to the Ozarks Mountains Plateau. Only 40 miles from the major metropolitan area of St. Louis, Bonne Terre is also less than 65 miles of many recreational areas.

The areas include twelve state parks; numerous state wildlife and recreational areas; six pristine float and fishing streams which include the Ozark Scenic Riverways and world class white water kayaking on the St. Francois River; three large lakes and countless smaller lakes; and the expansive Mark Twain National Forest. Several public golf courses and country clubs are also nearby.

St. Francois State Park features 3 hiking trails that wind through the forested hills and glades of the Coonville Creek Wild Area. The Coonville Creek Natural Area is highlighted by Coonville Creek. The Big River forms the southern boundary of the park and is ideal for canoeing.

Overnight guests can choose from more than 100 campsites. There’s fishing on the 3+ miles of Big River that flows through St. Francois State Park. Small-mouth bass and catfish are most commonly caught.

Within an easy 1.5-hour drive are 6 Missouri state parks, 6 Missouri state historic sites and an abundance of other public lands and facilities.

You can enjoy the world-renowned scuba diving facility at Bonne Terre Mines and the St. Louis metropolitan area within an hour’s drive of the park.
